Title: Test Technician Specialist

Independently performs tests on mechanical, electrical,

electromechanical, hydromechanical, or structural products, and records

results, utilizing engineering principles and test technology.

Manages testing operations to obtain

performance, emissions, hydraulic, mechanical or electrical data. Analyzes test

data, collaborates cross-functionally to improve tests efficiencies and

develops process improvement initiatives related to testing.

Principal Duties/Responsibilities:


Manages unit or system to be tested installation in test fixtures,

connecting valves, pumps, hydraulic, mechanical or electrical controls,

cabling, tubing, power source, and indicating instruments.

up the tested product to the proper operating conditions, collects

corresponding data and tears down equipment.



and implements more efficient process related to testing (production




cross-functional skills to drive efficiencies across Testing operations.


Examines parts for conformance, using precision

measuring instruments; recommends replacement of defective parts where needed;

identifies trends of defective parts and conformance issues.


Activates controls to apply electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or

mechanical power and subject test item to successive steps in test cycle.


Monitors controls and instruments, records

test data, analyzes data and makes recommendations.


Utilizes an advanced understanding of

controls and instrumentation, including programming capabilities.


Independently provides advanced data

analysis to ensure quality, uncover trends and make recommendations.


Collaborates with engineers regarding data

analysis and conclusions.


Compiles data, presents reports with

findings and makes recommendations to customers for improvement.


Accurately documents test results, data

analysis and recommendations in formal reports.


May prepare specifications for fabrication,

assembly, and installation of apparatus and control instrumentation used to

test mechanical, electrical, electromechanical, hydromechanical, or structural



May fabricate precision parts for test apparatus, using metalworking

machines such as lathes, milling machines, and welding equipment, or interprets

specifications for workers fabricating parts.


Leads, drives and participates in Continuous Improvement

activities--processes, results and cost savings using CI tools and methodology.


Provides daily mentoring to all levels of technicians; orients, trains,

assigns and checks the work of lower level employees.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Behaviors Required:


Advanced knowledge of internal combustion engine,

diesel/gas engines, test cell operations or data collection systems.


Ability to operate PC or PDP11 controlled



Design knowledge of Pro-E.


Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and

Tolerancing (GD & T).


Proven ability to work successfully with computers, including Microsoft

Suite experience.


Outstanding communication skills for interaction

with other team members, customers, and management.


Ability to speak effectively before groups of

customers and other ATS employees.


Ability to write and develop reports, present

findings to customers and upper management, and field questions about



Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach others.


Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology or equivalent field with 5

years of testing experience; or, 10 years of experience in specific
