Position Description

Reporting to the Ally Bank deposits and consumer strategy executive, the retail deposits operations leader will be responsible for leading a multi-site deposit operations organization of over 250 employees that oversees the daily operational activities that include expense management of $60MM annually, Loss Mitigation (Fraud and Negative Balance), and all back-office operational functions supporting deposit customers including Dispute processing, Wires, IRA, Pended Applications, Account Maintenance, Executive Resolution/Complaint Management, Fulfillment, Quality Control/Risk, operational project delivery, capacity planning and ensuring consistency across operating sites. The operations leader is responsible for fostering a positive, productive and engaged culture and ensuring strong partnership with other key partners supporting the business within a matrix-based organization. This includes a deep partnership with internal and external technology providers. He/she will ensure all regulatory, compliance and security standards are adhered to, including third party vendor management and oversight. This role will be responsible for establishing workforce planning and people practices to include the hiring, training and quality control activities for all employees.

Job Responsibilities

  • Strategic Roadmap and planning: Build out and maintain a multi-year strategic roadmap that identifies process enhancements related to People utilization, operational processes and Technology. Provide oversight for the leaders driving out the tactics to accomplish a multi-faceted set of metrics and efficiencies.

  • Oversight of budget and operational performance reporting, including forecasting of volumes, identification of drivers, seasonality and third party vendor performance

  • Ensure the proper controls and reporting are in place to deliver on targeted SLA and Quality Control SLA requirements

  • Develop/deploy and champion full adherence to all corporate policies and operational procedures, including adherence to federal and state regulations; maintain appropriate governance routines across all of deposit operations

  • Develop, maintain and execute business continuity plans as needed, ensuring that plans are robust and can achieve/exceed our daily processing requirements.

  • Drive process improvement/automation of key processes where possible for efficient and effective delivery of customer experience, using Six Sigma tools and process design where appropriate.

  • Matrix oversight with the FSI (Fraud and Security Investigations unit) group ensuring thorough investigation and deterrence of fraud against Ally Bank. Matrix ownership for the evolution of new mitigation strategies, authentication methodology and risk strategies

  • Ensure all fulfillment requests and customer transactions are handled in a customer centric manner and in accordance with all regulatory requirements.

  • Responsible for the executive resolutions program for the Deposits line of business, ensuring timely and appropriate responses, conforming to both the regulatory requirements and the internal Ally policies.

  • Collaborate with other Ally business units using influence and a collaborative culture and working environment

  • Lead and/or collaborate with other Deposit leaders to ensure optimal associate performance and operational execution.


Type of prior related experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • Retail deposit operations or relevant back office experience

  • 5+ years direct experience managing large operational teams

  • 10+ years in a financial services environment

  • Experience working within a multi-site operations in a matrixed environment

  • Leading and directing diverse teams able to meet and exceed organizational and department goals and SLAs

  • Demonstrated experience in business continuity and disaster recovery planning and execution

  • Budget management experience, including large and complex third party processing vendors

  • Experience and ability to attract, develop and retain quality talent

Special skills/abilities/competencies required:

  • Ability to lead and motivate large workforce across multiple locations

  • Process driven leader, focused on achieving highly efficient processes while improving the customer experience

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills with the ability to effectively influence across a diverse stakeholder base

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • High level of familiarity with banking regulations and laws, particularly those related to Consumer Deposits, with heavy emphasis on Reg E, Reg D, Reg DD, Reg C, Reg GG, AML/OFAC, TCPA, FDIC reporting.

  • Strong sense of accountability

  • Ability to escalate issues appropriately

  • Collaborative; can work and communicate with all levels within the organization

  • Design and implement new concepts aimed at improving operational efficiency while improving the customer experience.

  • Experience with Six Sigma tools and/or Process Automation skillset

  • Ability to effectively work in highly-matrixed organization

  • Proven success with third party vendor management and contract negotiation skills. Good judge of character

  • Ability to travel between both operational site locations of Lewisville, TX and Fort Washington, PA, and other Ally sites as needed to effectively execute the role
